Cockroaches are troublesome household pests and are of economic importance in hotels, restaurants, bakeries, groceries, ships and many other places. These nocturnal creatures are mechanical vectors of a number of food-borne diseases.
Locally, the five common species are:
1. American Cockroach
2. Australian Cockroach
3. Brown Cockroach
4. German Cockroach
5. Oriental Cockroach
Cockroaches are found both indoors and outdoors ubiquitously where food is present. They prefer a warm, moist environment and love to hide in cracks and crevices. They are most abundant in the kitchen. During the day, they can be found under sinks, behind stoves, refrigerators, cabinets, pantries, closets and inside sewage and drains.
